BMW Group Research and Engineering Centre (REC)
|
Phase 7 constitutes the core work of the REC expansion project. The five-storey, square quad building was constructed according to a design created by HENN Architects of Munich. With an edge length of approx. 110 metres, it is aligned in an east-west direction to the central development axis of the REC and, in the north-south direction, it follows the process axis of the vehicle development unit. A total of four building modules are grouped around a circular atrium. They are connected by mezzanines forming double-storey bridge-overs. The development project areas that have been created provide pleasant, generously appointed office space for a total of 2,000 engineers. One separate construction occupies the centre of the complex. Here, it is possible to map out and review development processes using full-scale models under real-time conditions. Complete vehicles can be transferred to any floor via a lift. The new project complex is thus able to make a valuable contribution to vehicle development efficiency. According to BMW Group, this structural layout offers an ideal symbiosis between constructional facilities on the one hand and an effective, process-aligned approach on the other, promising success for the future. The interior architecture and design of the complex are concomitant with the premium credentials of the BMW brand.
