Two towering high-rise buildings in Frankfurt

“Mainhattan” has gained another two sky-scraping attractions.

“Mainhattan” has gained another two sky-scraping attractions. But it is not their moderately impressive height that is awakening interest but rather their striking designs, innovative construction concepts, advanced technical equipment and - as far as Germany is concerned - an entirely new utilisation mix. And the buildings have one other thing in common: integrated in both are heritage-listed stone facades.

“Maintower” by architects Schweger Partner

A slim cylinder with non-silvered glass façade and a high reaching, square tower sporting window frames of architectural bronze combine in perfectly contrasting harmony. The overall concept is quite innovative for a city centre environment: integration of a cut-and-cover construction with a combined pile and raft foundation. The equipment for this low-energy building is also innovative: high-efficiency technologies and newly developed, paralle lopening windows reduce the power consumption to 75 kWh/m2. Also state-of-the-art is the safety-relevant access control system and door equipment: for example, 160 complex emergency exit control systems from DORMA secure the corridor access doors. Meanwhile ED 200 automatic swing door operators in the façade area not only allow the entrances to be used for continuous traffic flows but also ensure easy access for the disabled. Safe and reliable DORMA systems have also installed on narrow-stile doors, sheet steel doors and elevator doors - ranging from the TS 83 to the ITS 96.

In all there are more than 2,500 DORMA products and 4,000 lever handles from OGRO in the entire building. The 200 m high Maintower is the first Frankfurt skyscraper to offer public access: at the top of the high-rise is a restaurant and platform for visitors to enjoy the view both of the metropolis and of the surrounding area along the river Main.
