Glass room partitioning: Open, communicative and virtually undisturbed

The MOVEO Glass partitions success story continues

Westerstede: For years, DORMA Hüppe, international leader in the supply of innovative spatial division and room partitioning solutions, has been successfully providing MOVEO Glass partition systems to the market. Now, the company has equipped two further prestige buildings in Berlin and Stade (Germany) with MOVEO Glass movable walls. The advertising agency Serviceplan belongs to the leading providers of PR and communication services in Germany. And it has recently refurbished the interior of its impressive Berlin branch on the Oranienburger Strasse. In the attractive and newly designed attic storey, flexible and transparent partitioning systems were used – at the behest of the company management – in order to enable this area to be as adaptable as possible to a wide range of uses. The transparency of the walls particularly was a primary requirement so as to ensure that daylight and thus natural brightness could be harnessed to full effect in all the rooms. A high level of sound insulation was likewise required because the agency also rents out its rooms to external partners.

The choice made by the designing architects fell in favour of MOVEO Glass partitions because these would readily satisfy all the client specifications. The glass elements are able to attain sound reduction indices of Rw 50 decibels (laboratory value measured in accordance with EN 20140) to ensure the necessary acoustic retention and noise elimination. And if the partitioned room occupants want to be unseen as well as unheard, they simply have to let down the electrically operated blinds integrated between the glass panels of the double-glazed elements.

“One particular challenge involved ensuring the perfect operability of the glass partitions even under a heavy snow load that could lead to roof flexion of up to 4 centimetres. This too was no problem for the MOVEO system,” explains the Berlin architect responsible, Jörn Rohrberg.

“With MOVEO glass partitions, DORMA has virtually doubled the space available to us in this house of communications. Today, we can change the character of an entire floor, depending on our mood, the demands of the situation, the needs of the customer or specific application requirements, in just a few moments. We can make the facilities thus created sound-tight, and we can keep the interior hidden from prying eyes for confidential customer meetings or make them transparent with open visibility for our daily work. Yet, for events and conferences, we can make the all-glass walls completely disappear. It is all so quick and simple – and it also looks very good,” explains a delighted Benedikt Göttert, managing director of Serviceplan in Berlin.

Using the MOVEO Glass partitions, up to three conference rooms can be simultaneously provided in the attic storey of the Berlin agency within the shortest of times. And in all these rooms, the desire for brightness and transparency is equally fulfilled. Then, if the entire floor space needs to be utilised in all its elegant expansiveness, these individual MOVEO Glass movable walls can be packed away in their compact and space-saving stacking niches.

Convenience and elegance

With the low weight of the individual elements and the concomitant ease with which they can be moved and marshalled, rooms can be created at will. Due to the fact that all the partition elements are individually equipped with a ComforTronic system as standard, no manual crank operations are needed in order to extend and retract the sealing strips top and bottom. Once two MOVEO elements meet and mate at their end faces, the sealing strips automatically extend within just a few seconds.

The ComforTronic units combined with the excellent sound insulation and superb transparency of the system also added up to utterly convincing arguments for the decision-makers at accountants and auditors Gooßen & Heuermann in Stade, causing them too to opt for this product from the house of DORMA Hüppe.

“In the first instance, it was important for these clients that the rooms in the newly constructed building would be bright, friendly, contemporary and offer a simple yet compelling elegance. At the same time, the materials used and the interior architecture had to be consistent with the shipping and maritime environment in which this partnership primarily practises. Consequently, the reception and the interior rooms of the archive on the ground floor, for example, have been designed along the lines of containers on a ship,” explains the Frankfurt interior architect responsible, Susanne Leson (Dipl.-Ing.) in outlining the spec.

Immediately behind the reception area, MOVEO Glass partitions have been installed so that, depending on requirements, a separate conference room can be readily provided. As a result of the transparency of the elements, entering visitors enjoy an unlimited view ahead, consistent with and symbolic of the far-sightedness of the organisation in which they find themselves. In order to keep the impression of generous space as unimpaired as possible, the parking niche used to stack the glass elements is of exceptionally compact design. As a result of the high dimensional flexibility that DORMA can offer, such demands can invariably and readily be met with MOVEO Glass partitions.
